President Barack Obama has been taking lumps from Republicans for years over his support for Wall Street and health care reform, but today at the National Prayer Breakfast he claimed support from on high to defend two of his most controversial legislative achievements.
“And so when I talk about our financial institutions playing by the same rules as folks on Main Street, when I talk about making sure insurance companies aren’t discriminating against those who are already sick, or making sure that unscrupulous lenders aren’t taking advantage of the most vulnerable among us, I do so because I genuinely believe it will make the economy stronger for everybody. But I also do it because I know that far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years, and I believe in God’s command to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself.’”
“I know the version of that Golden Rule is found in every major religion and every set of beliefs — from Hinduism to Islam to Judaism to the writings of Plato,” Obama added.
The president said he often falls to his knees in prayer, and emphasized the role of his religious values in determining where to lead the country.
“I’d be remiss if I stopped there; if my values were limited to personal moments of prayer or private conversations with pastors or friends. So instead, I must try — imperfectly, but I must try — to make sure those values motivate me as one leader of this great nation.”
Obama maintained that his call for the wealthiest to give up their tax breaks, he’s doing so out of economic necessity, but also in line with biblical teachings.
“And I think to myself, if I’m willing to give something up as somebody who’s been extraordinarily blessed, and give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy, I actually think that’s going to make economic sense. But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’s teaching that ‘for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,’” Obama said, noting Jewish and Islamic teachings say much the same thing.
Obama also defended foreign aid from assault, noting that it not just enhances the nation’s security — but fulfills the biblical requirement to look out for those who cannot speak for themselves.
“And when I decide to stand up for foreign aid, or prevent atrocities in places like Uganda, or take on issues like human trafficking, it’s not just about strengthening alliances, or promoting democratic values, or projecting American leadership around the world, although it does all those things and it will make us safer and more secure. It’s also about the biblical call to care for the least of these — for the poor; for those at the margins of our society.

February 1st, 2012The U.S. Census Bureau reported Tuesday that the nation’s homeownership rate fell to 66% in the fourth quarter, continuing a seven-year drop from a fourth-quarter peak of 69.2% in 2004.
At the same time, U.S. home prices fell 1.3% in November from October and were 3.7% below 2010 levels, the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index indicates.
STORY: Home prices drop in November for third straight month
Falling homeownership — and prices — reflect the worst housing downturn since the Great Depression. And while there are signs that the housing industry’s downturn may at least be nearing a bottom, the impact of the collapse will be evident for years to come, economists say.
As of November, average U.S. home prices were back to mid-2003 levels, S&P says.

“Americans are less keen on homeownership knowing now that prices can fall,” says Paul Dales, economist with Capital Economics.
Even if people want to own a home, they may not be able to, given the difficulty in getting financing for a mortgage, Dales says. The National Association of Realtors says many purchase contracts appear to be falling through for that reason.

Many economists expect home prices to continue to fall this year and maybe into next year before stabilizing and then showing little or no appreciation for some time.
“The trend is down, and there are few, if any, signs in the numbers that a turning point is close at hand,” says David Blitzer, chairman of S&P’s index committee.
Phoenix was the only city in Case-Shiller’s 20-city index where home prices rose in November from October. They were up 0.6%.
On a year-over-year basis, only two cities showed rising values. Detroit was up 3.8%, and Washington, D.C., 0.5%, the Case-Shiller data show.
While prices are still falling in most areas, there are signs of increased home sales.
Existing home sales rose in December for the third consecutive month, the National Association of Realtors says. And pending home sales, while dropping more than expected in December, were still above levels a year before, NAR says.
“Home prices will be the last thing that moves up” after increasing sales and shrinking inventories, Blitzer says.
The homeowner vacancy rate fell again in the fourth quarter, the Census data show, to 2.3% from 2.4% in the third quarter and from 2.7% in the fourth quarter last year.
The 2.3% rate is the lowest since early 2006 and “leaves the visible inventory at a level consistent with house prices bottoming out later in the year,” Capital Economics says.
The drop in homeownership rates has been most pronounced in the West. As of the fourth quarter, the homeownership rate there stood at 60.1%, the Census data show.
That’s down from 64.5% in the fourth quarter of 2006, which is about when home prices began their five-year tumble.
The West is home to three of the states most affected by foreclosures, which have hurt homeownership rates. Nevada, Arizona and California were the top three states last year with the highest foreclosure rates, market researcher RealtyTrac says.
While homeownership drops, more people rent. Almost 34% of occupied homes in the fourth quarter were rented, according to the Census data. That’s up slightly from the same quarter a year earlier.
The rental vacancy rate of 9.4% for the quarter was the same as a year ago but down from above 10% rates in the fourth quarters of 2009 and 2008, the Census data show.
Higher rents are expected as more people rent, economist Dales says.

NBC 5 has learned that Fort Worth-based American Airlines may cut between 10,000 and 15,000 jobs across the company.
It is estimated that 1,000 of those jobs to be cut will be at the company’s maintenance base at Alliance Airport in north Fort Worth.
A meeting where AMR executives are expected to lay out the company’s plan for moving forward began mid-morning Wednesday. The plan is expected to include layoffs, pension and pay cuts, and the possible closure of an airplane maintenance facility at Fort Worth’s Alliance Airport.
Industry analysts have pointed out that other airlines outsourced aircraft maintenance when they went through bankruptcy proceedings over the past decade.
After the company presents the plan they will begin negotiating with unions, so the final numbers of lost jobs lost may change.

American Airlines’ parent company AMR filed for bankruptcy in November of last year and said Tuesday that they lost $904 million in the month of December — more than the first nine months of 2011 combined.
Union representatives have called a 4 p.m. news conference to discuss AMR’s plans.

21 January 2012: Last week at the Republican National Committee at its winter meeting meeting in New Orleans, LA adopted a resolution that calls for a one state solution to the never ending crisis in the Middle East. The resolution resolves for a single state under one law in the territory of Israel, Judea and Samaria with Israeli citizenship rights extended to all. This resolution all but acknowledges the results of Asaph’s Psalm 83 prophetic prayer.
The resolution (part of the Republican National Platform for the 2012 Presidential Election) has a preamble which describes Eretz (the Land) of Israel as God-given to the Jews and resolves “that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.”
This is a tremendous departure from the anti-Genesis 12:3 Republican 2008 platform which stated: “We support the vision of two democratic states living in peace and security: Israel, with Jerusalem as its capital, and Palestine.”
Those who say there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats have another thing coming.

When Barack Hussein Obama stated that his work is far from over, he meant it. He is not the meandering dolt as portrayed by some right-wing media pundits, but a dangerous Marxist dictator with powerful handlers at the helm who create the agenda for him to implement. A big part of that agenda includes providing permanent amnesty for individuals living in the U.S. illegally, resulting in the “Balkanization of America.”
There are many on both sides of the political divide who assert that reinforcing our borders and actually implementing our immigration laws is impossible and impractical. Some deliberately confuse legal immigration with lawless illegal immigration, while the government purposely skews facts and figures about illegal immigration to push for blanket amnesty.
Well buckle up, legal Americans, because you are about to witness the acceleration of the amnesty program via executive fiat. An end-around congress and the U.S. Constitution is about to take place through a little known arm of the executive branch of government known as the U.S. Domestic Policy Council.
Introducing the U.S. Domestic Policy Council
Most Americans don’t know anything about the U.S. Domestic Policy Council. The change of leadership that has just taken place within that agency, however, and the consequential changes that are in the offing will most certainly change that.
Created by executive order in 1993 during the Clinton administration, the U.S. Domestic Policy Council is tasked with oversight of the development and implementation of the President’s domestic policy agenda. The agency also acts as a liaison between the heads of various other federal offices and agencies to assist in the implementation of the President’s domestic agenda. Although it’s unofficial history can be traced back into the 1960′s, the council has played a more active role in domestic affairs since its formal creation. It has gained even more influence and prominence under Obama.
The Council’s leadership
On November 24 2008, Obama named attorney Melody Barnes, the top domestic policy advisor for Obama’s 2008 campaign and prior Executive Vice President for Policy at the Center for American Progress, a 501(c)3 organization founded by John Podesta, to chair the U.S. Domestic Policy Council. Last October, Barnes announced that she was leaving her position as director to spend more time with her family. During her brief tenure as council chair, Barnes cites the many accomplishments under her tenure. It was Barnes, under the guiding hand of Obama, who addressed issues and implemented a wide range of “policies” from those relating to health care to education, and from nutrition to immigration.
Barnes resigned at the beginning of the year so she could spend more time with her family, according to official statements. Taking her place is Cecilia Munoz, an activist for immigration policy change.
Who is Cecelia Munoz?
Cecilia Munoz, 49, served as the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House since early 2009 before being tapped by Obama to take over the U.S. Domestic Policy Council. She also worked for the National Council of La Raza, a group that aggressively lobbies for amnesty for illegal aliens and mass immigration.
Few would be surprised to learn that Munoz is also tied at the hip with George Soros, in her boardroom position with the Center for Community Change, a Soros-funded community organizing group with direct ties to MoveOn.org and ACORN among other similar organizations. She has also served on the board of George Soros’ Open Society Institute.
Her new position will involve “coordinating the policy-making process and supervising the execution of domestic policy” in the White House, and her prior positions and contacts will most certainly continue to flow into the West Wing.
It is important to remember that it is the Center for Community Change, the organization where Munoz working through 2008, openly uses as its training programs made infamous by socialist radical Saul Alinsky. One can ultimately follow the ties between the Center for Community Change to the Woods Fund, a Chicago based nonprofit group on which Obama directed along with Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers.
Endgame
Trained in Alinsky tactics, the endgame should be clear with this new West Wing appointment. Obama is shrewdly playing for keeps, and left unchecked, we will bear witness to one of the most overreaching mass amnesty programs ever seen under the unassuming name of the U.S. Domestic Policy Council.
The biggest threat to America, my friends, is that coming from within.

The Calypso crooner didn’t hold back during a recent radio chat on “Smiley & West,” co-hosted by Tavis Smiley and Cornel West, even if a rebroadcast of the program snipped out Belafonte’s most punishing comments, according to The Radio Equalizer.
“My question is, what legacy will he leave, having the opportunity to serve under such hugely dramatic circumstances and had such a huge impact on the universal state of things … how could he have had such a splendid opportunity to do more than most presidents would have ever been able to do, and he let that opportunity slip away from him.
I’m very cautious of the fact that those who think he has some second agenda and only if he could be given a second term for us to see the new light, new things will be revealed, new efforts will be made to take us to a place other than where we’ve been and where we languish. I just don’t trust that. I don’t believe that’s a safe way and accurate way to look at this scenario. If there was the kind of moral compass serving Barack Obama the way we hoped, the moral force would have helped him make choices, the absence of that force in his equations, that barometer to guide him when he has to make these decisions that are hugely complicated, he should have come to the table with the things that would have helped us in this moment of crisis.”

The granting of waivers for the president’s new health care laws remains a major controversy, as Republicans accuse the Obama administration of looking out for their donors and preferred groups and leaving the rest of the nation to fend for itself.
The latest news is that organized labor is getting a huge percentage of the latest waivers. Indiana Rep. Larry Buschon is a longtime surgeon and says this pattern of waivers is no coincidence. Buschon discusses whether there is anything illegal about the waivers or if it just smells of political favoritism. He also explains which aspects of Obamacare he expects the Republican-led House to address this year.
